Paris Saint-Germain seeking revenge versus Nice

Nice dumped Paris Saint-Germain out of the Coupe de France this season courtesy of a 6-5 penalty shootout victory. Manager Christophe Galtier has had Paris Saint-Germain's number over the last two seasons.

Galtier’s Lille edged out Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21. As manager of Nice this season, Galtier has led the Eagles to back-to-back nil-nil draws in the league and cup respectively versus the Parisians.

On Saturday night, the two clubs will face off in Nice at the Allianz Riviera. Nice may be third at the moment and 16 points off of first place Paris Saint-Germain, but Galtier is building a fine foundation for a title challenge next season.

Paris Saint-Germain are running away with the Ligue 1 title. Fifteen points separate the club from second-place Marseille. The Parisians are coming off of 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne. The win came a week after losing 3-1 to Nantes in a shock result.

Mauricio Pochettino will have one eye on next week’s Champions League last 16 second leg match with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. Paris Saint-Germain won 1-0 in the first leg as the score did not reflect their dominance.

Real Madrid will fancy their chances of overturning Paris’s lead in Spain. With the magnitude of the Champions League match, Pochettino could rest several key players for the match in Nice.

The Parisians are Ligue 1’s form team having taken 15 points from the last 18 points available in the division. Nice have hit a bumpy patch with just 10 points picked up from the last 18 points on offer in Ligue 1.

At home, Nice have blown hot and cold with a record of 6W-3D-4L. Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, won just one of their last five away fixtures in Ligue 1.

Galtier is likely to be without the defensive duo of Youcef Atal and Jordan Amavi. Both are due back this month, but Galtier may not risk playing the recently injured defenders against Paris Saint-Germain's attack.

Kylian Mbappe will be rested as he sits out the game due to a red card suspension. Defenders Layvin Kurzawa, Achraf Hakimi, and Sergio Ramos are all doubts.

Paris have had buyer’s remorse over signing Ramos. The defender has failed to get fit and is now rumoured to be living in the summer. Midfielders Ander Herrera and Leandro Paredes are both in line to return.

Pochettino won’t risk players if he doesn’t need to which means Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and Neymar could play sparingly or not at all.

Despite the personnel issues, Paris Saint-Germain should post a win at full-time and end their two-match draw streak versus Nice. It should be an entertaining game with over 2.5 goals.
