Goals in short supply when Lille entertain Clermont

Saturday afternoon sees the continuation of the action in the French top flight and features the clash between Lille and Clermont at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with Lille looking to build upon some recent encouraging results in Ligue 1.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats against Brest and PSG, the latter being a particularly heavy 5-1 loss to the league leaders at home, Lille have responded in positive fashion as the hosts have collected wins against Montpellier and Lyon along with picking up a point in a draw with Metz.
This upcoming visit of Clermont gives Lille a further opportunity of adding to their points tally and boosting their ambitions of a possible top five finish in the French top flight and having lost just two of their last 14 matches overall, Lille look in good shape here.
Furthermore, Lille have lost only one of their previous 11 matches on home soil at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy which includes five wins and has also seen the hosts score at least once in nine of these 11 home games as well.
Lille forward, Yilmaz (4 goals) is likely to be absent through injury.
Clermont occupy 15th place on the Ligue 1 ladder but the visitors do hold a comfortable looking six-point cushion over the bottom three prior to this weekend’s Ligue 1 action.
The visitors have seemingly come good again in Ligue 1 in recent weeks as they’ve lost just one of their last five games overall which came in the form of a 2-1 loss at home to St Etienne.
But also includes important wins against Rennes, Nice and Marseille, thus keeping them a safe distance from the relegation zone.
However, just four wins out of their last 16 matches overall in the domestic top flight suggests Clermont are not quite out of the woods yet and this upcoming trip to face Lille looks to be a tough test for the visitors and their recent resurgence.
Three wins out of their last four outings on their travels will give Clermont a welcome boost for this upcoming clash but having also already suffered seven defeats in their 13 away games to date this season, Clermont look to have their work cut out to get a result in this encounter.
All in all, this could be a tightly fought game with very few chances and therefore a low-scoring game could be on the cards here.
