St Etienne and Metz to both score on Sunday
AS Saint-Etienne vs FC Metz - 06/03/2022
2159
This Sunday features the relegation clash near the bottom of the French top flight with the clash between St Etienne and Metz at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard with a precious three points up for grabs for both teams.
St Etienne currently sit second from bottom in the Ligue 1 standings and occupy one of the relegation spots but the hosts are level on points with Sunday’s visitors, Metz, with only goal difference separating the two sides prior to this encounter.
St Etienne’s poor league position can be attributed to a miserable seven-match losing streak from the end of November through to mid-January but the hosts have since turned things around by losing just once in their subsequent five games.
Victories against Angers, Montpellier and Clermont have given St Etienne renewed hope of avoiding the drop, while goals could also feature as four out of St Etienne’s last five games have also seen both teams score.
In addition, 10 of St Etienne’s 13 home games have also resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net.
Metz head into this Sunday’s encounter at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard having failed to win any of their last five games overall in Ligue 1 following defeats to Nice and Marseille along with draws against Troyes, Lille and Nantes, while the bigger picture shows that Metz have found league wins hard to come by in this Ligue 1 campaign.
The visitors have collected just three wins out of their last 18 matches overall which also includes eight defeats, so the prospects of an away win here this Sunday does seem fairly unlikely.
Results away from home have also been a mixed bag as Metz have W3 D5 L 5 so far on their travels this season but the goals market may be an attractive proposition here as Metz will have been boosted by the fact that they’re unbeaten in their last four away games.
Points picked up at Lyon, Troyes and Lille have been boosted by a win at Reims and Metz may well fancy their chances of gaining another positive result in this upcoming basement clash on Sunday lunchtime.
The previous meeting between St Etienne and Metz ended in a 1-1 stalemate back at the end of October of last year and a similar scoreline could unfold here with both teams scoring.
