Gil Vicente's Fight for Europe to Continue With a Win Over Estoril Praia
Gil Vicente vs GD Estoril - 04/03/2022
2980
Gil Vicente will play hosts to Estoril Praia at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos with the two sides separated by only two positions in the table but also an almighty 11 points adrift of one another too.
It has, however, been a fantastic season for either of them so far compared to their usual selves with Praia back in the division for the first time in three years and in doing so, have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Primeira Liga.
The club are currently sitting on seven wins, nine draws, and eight losses in the Portuguese top flight this season, and with this putting them above the likes of Pacos Ferreira and Boavista, it's already been an excellent campaign.
Moreover though, just 28 goals have been scored from 24 games so far from Bruno Pinheiro's men and it has consequently brought in plenty of draws and it has also allowed them to win only one of their past 11 games in all competitions, as they are now actually in the midst of their worst run of the season.
Estoril Praia have won just once in 2022 as they beat Tondela in the league campaign, which also came a few weeks after losing to Tondela in the Taca de Portugal round of 16.
Last time out, Pinheiro's side fell to a 3-2 defeat to Boavista in the league which has seemingly ended all hope of a fight for a place in Europe with the gap now 11.
A win over Vicente would dramatically change things, however, but with further defeats to Sporting Lisbon Porto, Arouca, and Moreirense within the past two months, it’s tough to see how they close the gap over time.
As for Gil Vicente, they have propelled themselves right back into the European mix in the past two months as they remain undefeated since December 18th when they lost to Sporting.
Six more wins and three further draws were accumulated for Vicente during January and February and it now puts them in a comfortable fifth-placed position with only four points to make up on fourth-placed Braga.
What has been impressive by the Followers of Gil though is their defensive record. The club have only let in 25 goals all season long and they have subsequently only been dealt five losses - this is five fewer than sixth-placed Vitoria.
With this in mind, Forebet predicts a game of under 2.5 goals and a win for Vicente here.
