Sociedad to Edge Past Mallorca in Their Fight for Europe
Real Mallorca vs Real Sociedad - 02/03/2022

RCD Mallorca and Real Sociedad will clash in a midweek La Liga battle this Wednesday at Son Moix as the home side look to distance themselves further from relegation just as Sociedad look to leap back into the European spots.
Both sides have had entirely contrasting seasons this campaign, but over the past few months, the two have started to move in the opposite direction of where they were heading as Mallorca are out of the relegation zone, just as Sociedad exited the top six.
Mallorca are currently on a two-game losing streak right now following their loss to Valencia on home soil, just after they lost to Real Betis after putting up a real fight on the road.
Prior to this, however, Mallorca were in the midst of their most important period of the 2021/22 La Liga season as they won back-to-back games for the first time to bring them onto only six wins from the 25 games played.
Athletic Bilbao fell to a 3-2 loss to the club following Unai Simon's own goal back in mid-February, but it was the 2-1 win over Cadiz that separated Mallorca from the relegation zone at the start of February.
Two penalties were the difference for Luis García’s men that day and it now leaves them with a healthy five-point gap on Cadiz who occupy the final relegation spot in 18th. A win here for Mallorca and they could find themselves pushing toward the top end of the bottom half.
As for Sociedad, while their opponents here have been on the rise in their own regard, the San Sebastián side have fallen down the rankings a lot within the past few months that has even seen them lose their Europa League play-off battle with RB Leipzig.
Sociedad did return to winning ways in La Liga last time out, however, as they beat Osasuna 1-0 thanks to a goal from Aritz Elustondo.
The club previously failed to win the past three games though, and in reality, David Silva and co. have only managed to secure three wins in La Liga since the turn of the new year as they beat Celta Vigo in January, before registering victories over Granada and Osasuna in February.
Worse yet, Sociedad's abysmal goalscoring record has continued with them now scoring only 25 and even conceding the same amount. Forebet still predicts them to win here though in a game that will see under 2.5 goals.
