Lyon and Lille to Play Out a Close Draw in Ligue 1
2949

Lyon will welcome French champions Lille to the Groupama Stadium this Sunday evening as the two sides look to distance themselves from one another with only two points keeping the home side above the travelling outfit ahead of this one.

It has, in truth, been a diabolical season for both clubs ahead of this one and at the start of the season, neither side would have expected to be battling it out for status inside the top half this late in the season with the two predicted to previously fight for the Champions League spots.

This has been far from the case, however, and following on from a draw each this past weekend, Lyon sit in eighth inside Ligue 1.

Lille are now down in 11th in what is turning out to be one of the worst ever defences of the Ligue 1 title from a club.

The current kings of France now trail league leaders Paris Saint-Germain by a whopping 23 points in the table, and also sit six points adrift of the hectic Champions League spots too.

On one hand, there is hope for Lille, but on the other, if they can’t get the wins over the likes of Lyon around them, the club may not finish inside the top 10 this season.

Last time out, Burak Yilmaz and co. played out a goalless draw with Metz in the league, but with Edon Zhergrova receiving a red card that game, he will now miss this clash with Lyon and Renato Sanches could come back into the starting lineup along with Hatem Ben Arfa. They also lost 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Lyon themselves drew with Lens last weekend too and it means that they have lost only once in their past 10 games in Ligue 1, as Monaco defeated them 2-0 just three weeks ago. At the same time, Lyon have drawn five times in this period and won the other four.

Moussa Dembele has returned to a bit of form in this time too, as he now has four goals in his past six games, while Xherdan Shaqiri is up and running too after his goal against Marseille. Demebele has, however, scored three penalties and only one from open play in this time.

A close draw is expected here with both sides far from in great form. Forebet predicts a game of under 2.5 goals between the two as there are only two points that separate them in the league, as Forebet also expects the game to end in a draw.
