Sassuolo received a most welcome boost to their ailing morale when they registered a 2-0 win away from home at 2nd placed Inter Milan in last weekend’s action in Serie A and they now return to their MAPEI Stadium for this Saturday’s clash against Fiorentina, no doubt looking to post back-to-back wins.
That impressive win has helped Sassuolo up into a mid-table position of 11th place in the Italian top flight standings but recent results suggest that it’s too early to suggest that Sassuolo have turned a corner.
With just two wins out of their last nine games overall in Serie A, Sassuolo need to produce more consistent results from now until the end of the season if they’re to be considered serious challengers for a possible top six finish, but goals have featured on a fairly regular basis though.
20 of Sassuolo’s 26 (77%) matches to date in this season’s Serie A campaign have resulted in over 2.5 goals and indeed the total average number of goals per game including Sassuolo and opponents stands at 3.35 goals per game.
Fiorentina also have plenty of incentive to grab all three points in Saturday’s trip to the MAPEI Stadium as the visitors sit on the fringes of the top six in Serie A with just a single point separating them from the 6th placed side, Lazio, prior to this weekend’s action.
Fiorentina will be chasing a third consecutive league win in Serie A as well this Saturday following previous victories collected over Spezia and Atalanta which have helped maintain Fiorentina’s push for a possible top six finish come the end of the campaign.
However, Fiorentina’s form away from home in recent times has been a little sketchy to say the least as the visitors have managed to win just two out of their last nine games on their travels and losing five of these matches as well.
Goals look likely though where Fiorentina are concerned as well, as 18 of Fiorentina’s 25 matches to date (72%) have also resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored.
Four of their last six away games have also seen three goals or more hit the back of the net too.
Both Sassuolo and Fiorentina are capable of scoring and conceding goals and this upcoming tussle may be no exception.
