Sevilla to Edge past Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia as They go for Title Number 7
Dinamo Zagreb vs Sevilla FC - 24/02/2022
7277
Sevilla will travel to Croatia on Thursday night as they meet with Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League following on from their third-placed finish in the Champions League just as the home side finished second in their Europa League campaign.
All of the Europa League will be in fear now that the serial winners Sevilla have once again dropped into the division, as they have won a record six titles in this competition and conquered the tournament as recently as 2020.
Not much has changed for Sevilla since that 2020 triumph, with ex-Spain manager, Julen Lopetegui, still in charge just as the majority of the team have stayed with the club too.
Luuk de Jong was the man for the Spanish side in the final two years ago, as he netted twice in a 3-2 win, but much of the attention now falls on other shoulders.
Anthony Martial, a winner in this competition with Manchester United, is joined by the likes of Munir and Youssef En-Nesyri up top, while the club have also seen the return of Ivan Rakitić who has won the competition with the club before, eight years ago. Captain Jesus Navas will also be heading for a record fourth Europa League title with Sevilla.
In the Champions League, however, Lopetegui's men did struggle. They won just one game from the six outings, drawing three and losing the other to end up finishing four points adrift of second-placed, RB Salzburg.
Sevilla also scored five and conceded five too, but back in La Liga, the club have managed to conjure up some excellent form.
Four draws in the past five games for them have pushed Real Madrid six clear at the top of La Liga, but with only two defeats all season, Sevilla are outperforming every in Spain except the serial champions, Real.
Zagreb's Europa League campaign was fantastic too, as they only came unstuck against West Ham United in Group H.
The Croatian giants won three of the six games in the groups and finished four clear of third-placed Rapid Wien.
Sevilla will have a tough test here, despite their own form and Europa League history. Zagreb have upset the odds before and even beat Tottenham Hotspur in the competition 3-0 on this ground last season.
Forebet predicts the ruthlessness of Sevilla to shine through, however, and them to win here in a game of under 2.5 goals.
