On Thursday evening, Olympiakos host Atalanta in the Europa League last-32 second leg at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki. The first leg in Bergamo ended 2-1 to the Nerazzurri and the Italian team are favourites to seal progress into the next round of the competition.

The first leg was a rare defeat for Olympiakos, as the home team currently sit on top of their domestic table and look set to claim the Greek Super League title once again.

In fact, the defeat in the reverse fixture was Olympiakos’ first defeat in all competitions.

The Greek giants may be a dominant force in their domestic league, but their results in the Europa League are a whole different story, as Olympiakos have lost four of their last five games in the competition.

However, their recent home record in the Europa League is slightly better, as they have won four of their last six games in the competition on home soil.

Like their opponents, Atalanta dropped out of the Champions League into the Europa League. The Nerazzurri finished third-place in a group containing Manchester United, Villarreal and Young Boys.

The boys from Bergamo have become more accustomed to the Champions League in recent seasons, as the visitors have not featured in the Europa League since 2018.

Atalanta have a decent recent record in the competition though, as they are unbeaten in eight matches in the Europa League over 90 minutes, recording four wins in their last six outings.

Atalanta have only played seven away games in the Europa League and have suffered just one defeat over 90 minutes, which came at Dortmund in 2018.

The Nerazzurri have also scored at least two goals in four of their last five games on their travels in the competition.

Forebet predicts that Atalanta will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter to seal their place in the last-16 of the Europa League.
