Boro to Edge Closer to the Playoffs as West Brom Slip Further Away
3871

Middlesbrough will play hosts to West Bromwich Albion at the Riverside stadium this Tuesday evening as the two clubs clash in what is arguably their biggest game of the season so far with a loss for either of them set to seriously dampen their playoff attempts.

Boro have been exceptional since the arrival of Chris Wilder. The former Sheffield United man has excelled with the likes of the Blades in the Championship and League One down the past decade, and the Englishman has really changed the course of an entire season for the North East outfit here.

However, following a 2-1 loss to Bristol City recently, the club have now dropped back into seventh after marching their way into the playoffs.

Matt Crooks scored again that day to make it three in his past four games for Middlesbrough, and this defeat to Bristol was indeed the club’s first of the month after losing to Blackburn Rovers back in January.

Wilder will still feel the magic of the great form he has conjured up for the club though, as it was only a week ago they thrashed Derby County 4-1 where four different goalscorers turned up.

Now, ironically enough, Wilder has his work cut out as he now trails his former side Sheffield United by a point in the chase for the playoffs, with the Blades also finding a new lease of life recently.

It makes this game a must-not-lose one for the North East side with there being just three points between them and West Brom in 11th, and a victory for the Baggies could literally mean the two swap places in the table if other results go a certain way, despite there being four places between them.

It really has been a disastrous 2022 for West Brom thus far, with the club now closer to the bottom half than the playoffs ahead of this one, but given the crazy nature of the Championship, they are still just four points away from returning to the playoff spots.

It's now five games without a win for the Baggies since they smashed Peterborough 3-0, as they have lost to Preston North End, Millwall, Sheffield United, and Luton Town by a 2-0 scoreline.

This means they haven’t scored since they've scored just five times in 2022 after also losing to Queens Park Rangers in the league and Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.

Forebet predicts a win here for Boro in a game that sees under 2.5 goals.
