Atalanta to Put Their Marker Down on the Europa League by Beating Olympiacos
Atalanta Bergamo vs Olympiacos FC - 17/02/2022
3123
Atalanta will play hosts to Olympiacos the Gewiss Stadium this Thursday night in a tense affair that concludes the first legs of the new Europa League play-offs.
In the most competitive Europa League campaign in recent memory, Atalanta will fancy themselves up there with the best in the competition.
Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Napoli, and Real Sociedad are all competitors in Europe’s second tier knockout competition, and it’s absolutely anybody’s to call.
Atalanta, however, will favour themselves amongst the favourites like Barcelona, Napoli, and Dortmund, with the club still putting up a solid fight in Serie A for a place in the top four.
Indeed, the title race looks weak for them now though, with the Milan sides and Napoli bridging a healthy gap.
Nevertheless, with a game in hand on Juventus, the Bergamo side can return to fourth if they win there and following the 1-1 draw with Juventus the club have finally picked up a much-needed point
Prior to snatching a point off the Old Lady, Atalanta were winless in their past four games which saw them lose the Coppa Italia quarter-final to Fiorentina, and draw in top six battles with Inter and Lazio both by a 0-0 scoreline.
A stunning 2-1 loss to relegation fighters Cagliari would also come, and as a result of a now five-game winless run, this clash with the Greek giants is just as much about form than it is advancing into the next round.
As for Olympiacos, they will want to get themselves amongst the elite names in this competition this time around as they enter these Europa League play-offs in stunning form and as the only unbeaten side left in the competition from a domestic standpoint alongside Porto.
As the champions of Greece one more time last year, Olympiacos are bettering themselves once again with 17 wins and five draws and no defeats from their 22 games played in the Super League Greece.
This stunning record has seen them concede only 11 times and score 38 goals.
Moreover, with a Greek Cup semi-finals battle with PAOK coming up soon, the only time the club has actually lost in 2021/22 is in Europe, with a record of three wins and three defeats from their Group D campaign.
Atalanta should just about have the edge on Olympiacos, despite their stunning form in Greece and their unbeaten domestic campaign.
Forebet predicts the Italian giants to edge the result here but in a game that sees under 2.5 goals with Olympiacos looking solid in defence.
