Marseille to take the honours at Metz
FC Metz vs Olympique Marseille - 13/02/2022
3022
Sunday’s action in the French top flight continues with a look ahead to the fixture between Metz and Marseille at the Stade Saint-Symphorien with the hosts looking to climb out of the relegation zone.
Metz currently occupy a third from bottom position in the French top flight and therefore the relegation play-off spot having registered just four wins to date in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign, and indeed, the hosts have picked up just two wins out of their last eight matches overall.
A 4-1 home win over fellow strugglers, Lorient, along with recent 1-0 win away from home at Reims have at least helped Metz keep their heads above water so to speak but this upcoming visit from high-flying Marseille could cause further problems for Sunday’s hosts.
On home soil, Metz have managed to record just the one win throughout the whole of this campaign while drawing 4 and losing 6 of their other 10 games, while the bigger picture shows Metz have managed to collect just one win from their last 19 games at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.
Marseille were dealt a heavy 4-1 defeat away from home at Nice in their midweek Coupe de France cup-tie but it’s back to the business of Ligue 1 duty for the visitors who have a genuine chance of securing Champions League football for next season.
Marseille sit in 2nd place and although they trail the Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, by a significant 13-point margin, the visitors look to have their destiny in their own hands and bring a decent looking sequence of results into this Sunday’s clash.
The visitors have lost just once in their last seven games overall in Ligue 1 which came in the form of a 2-1 loss away from home at Lyon.
Marseille have also picked up wins against Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lens and Angers as well.
Interestingly, the former three aforementioned wins were all achieved on the road where Marseille have won five out of their last six outings in the domestic top flight and also keeping five clean sheets in the process as well.
Marseille are unbeaten in each of their last six meetings against Metz and despite tasting defeat in the domestic cup in midweek, Marseille are expected to bounce back with a win on Sunday evening.
