Two of Belgium’s heavyweights will battle it out as KAA Gent play hosts to Club Brugge at the KAA Gent Stadium in the first of the two legs in the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup with the two looking to salvage something from a rare underperforming season from the two.

It has been a tremendously underwhelming campaign so far for KAA Gent, who sit in a worrying sixth place ahead of this meeting. This means they are now 11 points off Club Brugge in the Belgian First Division A, as they have only won 10 of their 25 games played.

At the same time, Gent have ended up on the losing side eight times so far this campaign, while drawing another seven. It puts them with a goals scored record of 36, as they have also conceded 26, which is the joint-second lowest in the division.

To make it into the semi-finals of this Belgian Cup clash, Tarik Tissoudali scored twice against Standard Liege last time around, while Sven Kums also netted in the 3-1 win also. The club also eased past Lommel in the last round of 16 as Julien De Sart scored both goals.

Back in the league, however, it’s been all doom and gloom for the East Flanders side as they have now extended their six games since beating Standard in the Belgian Cup last time out, meaning they have failed to win a domestic game since that victory.

Three draws would come, most notably against the league leaders, Union Saint-Gilloise. The club would also lose to Antwerp in the last fixture, and it was a very lacklustre display from Gent once again.

Brugge, on the other hand, are fighting for the league title once more but in a fashion that they are not too familiar with as they sit nine points adrift of the league leaders having only won 13 games, drawn nine, and lost three.

The club have also conceded 30 league goals so far, which is four more than they let in throughout all of last season as they won the Belgian First Division A.

Brugge are in much greater form than their opponent's, as they beat Kortrijk 1-0 last time out, just after taking points of leaders, Saint-Gilloise.

Given the rivalry and the topsy-turvy form of both sides on the domestic front, Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals here and one that will end in a draw during 90 minutes of action, leaving it all to play for in the second leg.
