The fourth Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final sees the tournament favourites come up against the rank outsiders, with Senegal and Equatorial Guinea facing off on Sunday.

Equatorial Guinea are the surprise package in the last eight, reaching the AFCON quarter-finals for only the third time in history.

By contrast, Senegal’s squad is stacked with household names. The Lions of Teranga are tipped to lift the trophy as the highest-ranked African nation.

Senegal head into the quarter-finals on a 14-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, having picked up two wins and two draws during the tournament.

After beaten Zimbabwe, Senegal drew with Guinea and Malawi before seeing off Cape Verde in the round of 16.

The Lions of Teranga have yet to concede a single goal at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, meaning they come into Sunday’s clash on the back of five straight clean sheets.

That said, they have failed to score over 2.5 goals in any of their previous six matches – underlining their struggles in attack.

On the flip side, Equatorial Guinea lost to Ivory Coast in their first group game before beating Algeria and Sierra Leone.

In the round of 16, they took Mali all the way to penalties. Despite seeing 42% of the ball, they managed to advance to the quarter-finals.

Having prevented Algeria, Sierra Leone and Mali from scoring, Equatorial Guinea head into this clash on the back of three consecutive shutouts.

With just a single loss coming in their past nine games across all competitions, they will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds again this weekend.

Head-to-head: Senegal and Equatorial Guinea have faced each other three times since 2012. Equatorial Guinea won the first match before Senegal clamed back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018.

The overall head-to-head result between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea stands at 5-2 in favour of the Lions of Teranga.

Team news: Senegal are hoping that Sadio Mane will be fit to play on Sunday after the Liverpool forward suffered a heft blow to head last time out.

Equatorial Guinea have no injury worries ahead of the quarter-finals, meaning head coach Juan Micha will be able to field a full-strength line-up this weekend.

Equatorial Guinea have done well to make it this far. That said, Senegal should progress into the last four without any major issues.

Forebet predicts that Senegal will keep yet another clean sheet on their way to victory, scoring over 1.5 goals in the process.
