On Saturday, the host nation face one of the rank outsiders in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Cameroon go head-to-head with Gambia in Douala.

Cameroon booked their place in the last eight with a 2-1 victory over Comoros on Monday after going unbeaten during the group stage.

Meanwhile, Gambia edged out Guinea 1-0 in the round of 16 – reaching the quarter-finals for the very first time in history.

Gambia finished second in Group F after taking seven points from a possible nine. After beating Mauritania, they drew with Mali before beating Tunisia.

In the round of 16, Musa Barrow scored the only goal of the game as Gambia got past Guinea. However, Yusupha Njie was sent off late on – meaning he will miss Saturday’s clash through suspension.

Gambia can take confidence from the fact that they have lost just four of their previous 16 encounters across all competitions.

Better still, they have kept a clean sheet in three of their four AFCON games so far. That said, they will need to be at their very best to prevent Cameroon from scoring.

Just like Gambia, Cameroon picked up two wins a draw in the group stage – finishing three points clear of second-place Burkina Faso in Group A.

They were the highest scorers in the group stage, netting seven goals in three games. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in the tournament.

Cameroon beat Comoros 2-1 in the round of 16, enjoying 66% possession while racking up 19 shots – six of which were on target.

Vincent Aboubakar netted Cameroon’s second on Monday, taking his tally six goals in four games. The striker is on course to claim the Golden Boot on home soil.

Head-to-head: Gambia and Cameroon faced each other twice during qualifying for AFCON 2017. Cameroon won both matches, winning 1-0 away before winning 2-0 at home.

Although they have only gone head-to-head twice, it is clear that Cameroon have the upper hand over Gambia.

Team news: Having scored in all four of his AFCON appearances this year, Vincent Aboubakar is undoubtedly Cameroon’s biggest threat.

As for Gambia, they will be relying heavily on Bologna striker Musa Barrow on Saturday. Yusupha Njie is suspended after seeing red last time out.

Although Gambia have done well to reach the quarter-finals, Cameroon should have enough quality to reach the last four.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Cameroon will edge out Gambia on Saturday – keeping a clean sheet on their way to sealing a low-scoring victory.
