Colombia host Peru on Friday in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Los Cafeteros are fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification standings ahead of Friday’s game. A win would solidify their place in the automatic qualification places.

Peru are fifth in qualifying after 14 matches. The fifth-place position is not an automatic qualification place. Rather it is the intercontinental playoff place. Peru are just one point above sixth-place Chile.

A win for Peru would not only keep them ahead of the chasing pack, but it would allow them to leapfrog fourth-place Colombia. Peru are ranked No. 22 in the world ahead of this week’s match with Colombia.

Peru are unbeaten in four straight games in all competitions. Three of their last four games finished as wins. The Peruvians played as recently as January 20 when they claimed a 3-0 win over Jamaica.

Colombia are undefeated in their last two games in all competitions. They recently played on January 16 with a 2-1 win over Honduras. Just one of Colombia’s last 13 games in all competitions finished as a defeat. However, eight of those games ended as draws.

Los Cafeteros have a superior head-to-head record in the serious of games versus Peru. Colombia have posted a record of 27W-22D-19L.

Colombia and Peru met three times in 2021. Los Cafeteros won two of the three games while Peru picked up a victory in one of the fixtures. Colombia smashed Peru in the reverse World Cup qualifying match 3-0.

Yerry Mina, Juan Uribe, and Luis Diaz scored the goals for Los Cafeteros. The teams met twice in the Copa America with Peru winning the first match 2-1. Sergio Pena scored for Peru and Yerry Mina tallied an own goal. Migel Borja scord for Colombia but it wasn’t enough for the win.
