The Supercopa de Espana final goes down this Sunday, with Athletic Club and Real Madrid going head-to-head for the title in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.

On Wednesday, Real Madrid booked their place in the showpiece with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Barcelona in extra-time.

Athletic Club than beat Atletico Madrid in Thursday’s semi-final, coming from behind to beat Diego Simeone’s side 2-1.

In La Liga, first-place Real Madrid sit 21 points clear of ninth-place Athletic. That tells you everything you need to know about the gulf in quality between the teams.

Goals from Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema saw Los Blancos take the lead on two occasions on Wednesday, but Barca fought back twice.

However, Federico Valverde secured the victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side – netting the winner in extra-time.

As a result, Real Madrid have now won 22 of their 29 games across all competitions this season – suffering just three losses along the way.

Having dominated both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this term, Los Blancos will be confident of securing the Supercopa de Espana title on Sunday.

On the flip side, Athletic Club appeared to be heading for defeat in their semi-final before late goals from Yeray Alvarez and Nico Williams turned the tie around.

Given that Athletic have only managed to win two of their past 12 La Liga games, Thursday’s victory came as something of a surprise.

That said, Athletic boast the second-best defensive record in the Spanish top flight – having conceded just 17 goals in 21 matches.

They have also recorded a league-high ten draws this season, registering six wins and five defeats in the process.

Head-to-head: Athletic Club have only managed to win one of their previous 15 meetings with Real Madrid across all competitions.

Los Blancos have won each of their last three games against Athletic, as well as five of their previous six encounters.

Team news: Gareth Bale, Mariano Diaz, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba are all currently unavailable for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club will be without the injured trio of Asier Villalibre, Unai Nunez and Unai Vencedor on Sunday.

Despite Athletic’s impressive defensive record, Real Madrid should have more than enough attacking firepower to find a way through on Sunday.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Real Madrid will score over 1.5 goals on their way to securing the Supercopa de Espana title.
