Monaco to Keep Up Their Top Four Battle as They Heap More Misery on Clermont Foot
AS Monaco vs Clermont Foot - 16/01/2022
2504
Ligue 1’s incredible race for Europe and the fight for survival will continue this weekend in what is turning out to be a classic French top flight season with so many positions still up for grabs and the European spots nearly impossible to call as AS Monaco meet with Clermont Foot 63.
Ahead of this meeting, there is an argument for clubs as high as 14th to be in the relegation scrap, and sides as low as 10th in Ligue 1 to get into the Champions League spots.
Moreover, as only six points separates Lyon in 11th and Rennes in fourth, this might just be the tightest league in all of Europe in 2021/22.
Monaco have had a troublesome season so far and it has been tremendously underwhelming. The club have failed to put together a decent bit of momentum throughout the entire campaign and it has been a rare sight to see them win more than three on the bounce.
Currently, they are on a four-game winning streak following two victories in the French Cup and a fantastic win over Rennes and a goalless draw with Nantes last time out.
Kevin Holland and Wassim Ben Yedder turned back the clock in the win over Rennes, and this remains one of their results of the season as it has now put them within only a point of the fourth-placed side.
Within the past few months, however, losses to Paris Saint-Germain and Brest have brought them back down to earth a little, while draws with the likes of Strasbourg and LOSC Lille have dampened their top four race a little.
Nevertheless, a couple of wins and favourable results will rocket them into the European spots to some degree.
Clermont Foot, on the other hand, have had a worrying season. They are currently outside of the relegation zone as they sit 15th, but despite their 18 points keeping them above the drop, one bad weekend of results could send them crashing into the bottom three.
They've also let in the third-most in Ligue 1 this season and with Monaco's 29 goals scored, it may be a bit of a tough game for them.
They did, however, get a win over Angers just before Christmas in the league and then continued their unbeaten form with a 0-0 draw at home to Reims.
It should be a relatively comfortable win for Monaco and Forebet predicts a victory for them in a game that will see under 2.5 goals.
