Marseille welcome Lille to the south of France on Sunday, wrapping Matchday 21 of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season.

Marseille currently sit third in the table – level with second-place Nice on 36 points and five points clear of fourth-place Rennes. They also have a game in hand over both of those sides.

Meanwhile, Lille find themselves tenth – 13 points outside the top four and 18 points behind high-flying Marseille.

Marseille head into Sunday’s clash on a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, having picked up five wins and a draw since their last loss.

Better still, Jorge Sampaoli’s men have lost just one of their previous 11 Ligue 1 matches – securing six wins and four draws along the way.

It is also worth noting that Marseille boast the best defensive record in the French top flight, having conceded just 15 goals in 19 games this season.

That said, they are the lowest scorers in the top eight. With 27 goals to their name, they will be hoping to find the back of the net more frequently during the second half of the campaign.

As for Lille, they won the Ligue 1 title last season but have struggle to make their mark on the league this term.

They have won just seven of their 19 matches in 2021-22, registering seven draws and five losses in the process.

However, it’s fair to say that Lille have improved in recent weeks. In fact, they are currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1.

It is also worth pointing out that Lille have won three of their previous four league matches, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of those victories.

Head-to-head: Across the past three Ligue 1 meetings between these two sides, Lille have claimed two wins and a draw.

Each of the previous eight Ligue 1 matches between Marseille and Lille have produced over 1.5 goals, meaning we should see plenty of goals on Sunday.

Team news: Marseille could be without the injured duo of Valentin Rongier and Steve Mandanda on Sunday. Elsewhere, Pape Gueye is away on AFCON duty with Senegal.

Lille will be missing forward Timothy Weah this weekend as the American continues to recover from a muscle injury.

Although Lille have upped their game in recent times, there is no denying that Marseille are favourites to win this one.

Forebet predicts that Marseille will score over 1.5 goals on their way to beating Lille on Sunday.
