Nice to take the spoils against Nantes

Friday night sees the start of another weekend’s action in the French top flight with the Ligue 1 clash between 2nd placed Nice and 9th placed Nantes at the Allianz Riviera with the hosts going in search of a fourth league win on the trot.
Nice have managed to maintain their push for a top two finish in Ligue 1 and although they still trail the league leaders, PSG, by a significant 11-point margin, their momentum in recent weeks has certainly been impressive.
Victories against Rennes 2-1, Lens 2-1 and Brest 3-0 have lifted Nice into 2nd spot while the bigger picture shows that the hosts have lost just three of their last 11 matches overall in the domestic top flight.
With just one win in their last five games at home though which includes three recent losses on the trot to Montpellier, Metz and Strasbourg respectively, Nice can’t afford to take anything for granted here against Nantes even though the hosts hold a good recent record against their visitors.
Nice have won each of the last three meetings on the trot against Nantes.
Onto Nantes then and the visitors dropped down to 9th place on the Ligue 1 standings after a 0-0 draw at home with Monaco on the weekend but nevertheless, that point helped extend Nantes’s unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to four matches overall.
Nantes had previously picked up three wins on the trot in the shape of victories over Lorient, Lens and Saint-Etienne, two of whom currently sit in the bottom three of the French top flight, but they’re expected to face stiffer competition on Friday night when they make their way to the Allianz Riviera to take on high-flying Nice.
Although Nantes have won their last two away games on the trot, these have been Nantes’ only highlights in their last seven matches on their travels while the bigger picture shows that Nantes have won just three of their last 10 games on the road overall.
In addition, Nantes have managed to keep just two clean sheets within this 10-game period away from home and this could prove to be a determining factor in the possible outcome of this clash against Nice, against whom they’ve struggled against in recent previous exchanges.
