Metz to be Thrown Deeper Into Relegation With Defeat to Strasbourg

Metz will welcome Strasbourg to the Stade Saint-Symphorien this weekend as the two clubs in very contrasting positions battle it out in Ligue 1 as the home side look to get out of the relegation zone just as the away outfit look to crack the top 10.

It has been a long and tiresome season for Metz fans so far, who in reality, are as bad as almost anyone in the division with only St-Etienne having fewer points than them in the division with their 12 compared to Metz’s 16.

At the same time, the club have one of the worst defensive records in France and indeed, across Europe's top five divisions. So far, 39 goals have been conceded in Ligue 1 so far and only Bordeaux and St-Etienne have let in more and it is one of the main reasons the club is in the bottom three.

It has also meant Frédéric Antonetti’s men have lost nine games from the 19 they have played so far this season and with their seven draws and only three wins, it's crucial they start to pick up points very soon.

Despite losing in the French Cup, in their past two Ligue 1 games, Metz are actually in excellent form with their 1-1 draw against Lyon that was salvaged with a goal from Boubacar Traore.

They also managed to beat Lorient in what was easily the result of the season for them as they were able to leap ahead of fellow relegation fighters Lorient.

Metz smashed them 4-1 thanks to goals from Pape Matar Sarr, Farid Boulaya, and Ibrahima Niane and it was the only time they have looked more than impressive this season.

It also gives fans hope of survival in Ligue 1 this season, but with this improved form comes greater pressure and meeting with a decent Strasbourg is going to be a problem for them.

The club are sitting in 10th still in the French top flight, but with seven wins from 19 games, they are still chasing down a place in the top four with Rennes occupying this spot with 31 points compared to 26 of Strasbourg.

The club are in a bit of a pickle right now, but form still looks promising despite losing recently to Montpellier in the French Cup and Marseille in the league. The 10th-placed side also smashed Strasbourg 3-0 in December and Bordeaux 5-2 as they began to really rack up their goal difference and the wins on the board.

It’s set to be a close game, but Forebet predicts Strasbourg to win here in a game that will see over 2.5 goals.
