Top-four chasers Roma and Juventus braced for tense encounter

There is a full round of Serie A fixtures on Sunday, barring any COVID-19 postponements. One of the standout ties of the round sees Roma welcome Juventus to the capital.

The two sides are separated by just three points in the table, with seventh-place Roma trailing fifth-place Juventus.

As a result, both teams will be desperate to claim all three points on Sunday in order to enhance their prospects of finishing in the top four.

Roma were beaten 3-1 by AC Milan on Thursday. English striker Tammy Abraham scored his side’s only goal before Rick Karsdorp and Gianluca Mancini were both sent off.

Jose Mourinho’s men have won just two of their previous six Serie A games, recording one draw and three losses along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that Roma have only managed to keep one clean sheet in their past six encounters.

On a brighter note, Roma have lost just four of their last 29 Serie A matches on home soil. They are invariably difficult to beat at the Stadio Olimpico.

As for Juventus, they drew 1-1 with Napoli on Thursday – extending their unbeaten streak to six matches.

Max Allegri’s side have picked up four wins and two draws from their previous six games, keeping four clean sheets along the way.

Let’s not forget that Juventus have only lost one of their past nine Serie A games, registering six wins and two draws in that time.

Given that each of Juve’s previous nine league games have produced under 2.5 goals, Sunday’s clash is likely to be a low-scoring affair.

Head-to-head: Roma have only managed to win one of their previous six meetings with Juventus across all competitions.

In Serie A, Juventus have won five of the past nine matches between the teams and head into Sunday’s clash on a three-game unbeaten streak in this fixture.

Team news: Leonardo Spinazzola remains Roma’s only long-term injury absentee. Borja Mayoral and Daniel Fuzato are also likely to miss Sunday’s showdown.

On the flip side, Juventus currently have Danilo, Aaron Ramsey and Leonardo Bonucci sidelined through injury. There are also question marks over the fitness of Giorgio Chiellini.

There is very little between Roma and Juventus at the moment, meaning they are likely to play out a close-fought encounter.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Roma and Juventus will record a low-scoring draw on Sunday.
