Sunday afternoon brings us further action from the French Ligue 1 and the clash between Nantes and Monaco with both clubs eyeing off a place in the top five of the domestic top flight.

7th placed Nantes are just a single point behind their visitors, Monaco, heading into this important French top flight clash and the hosts will be seeking to record a fourth league win on the trot in Ligue 1 following recent wins captured against Lorient, Lens and Saint-Etienne respectively.

These recent victories would have certainly been a welcome and refreshing change for Nantes who had previously endured a difficult five-match sequence without a win, losing three of these five games as well.

Results and form on home turf at their Stade de la Beaujoire has also picked up in recent times as Nantes have lost just one of their last six matches which includes collecting four wins in the process.

However, Nantes face a tough proposition in the shape of Monaco here and goals could be thin on the ground as five of Nantes’ nine home games to date have been under 2.5 goals.

Monaco moved up into 6th place and a point ahead of their hosts thanks to their recent 2-1 home win against Rennes just before the winter break which became Monaco’s third win in four matches in Ligue 1.

Earlier wins against Angers and Metz have also helped Monaco climb back up the Ligue 1 table but this Sunday’s trip to Nantes is by no means a walk in the park as Nantes can be tricky opponents.

Monaco have lost just one of their last seven games overall though and the visitors will be quietly confident that they can walk away from this fixture with at least a point to show for their troubles.

However, the majority of Monaco’s success so far this season has been achieved on home soil at their Stade Louis II, while on the road, the visitors have managed to win just three of their nine games to date on their travels.

Five out of Monaco’s nine away games have also seen under 2.5 goals as well.

Three out of the previous five meetings have resulted in under 2.5 goals and another tight battle could be on the cards again on Sunday.
