Manchester City to edge Brentford away from home
5499

Manchester City are the pacesetters in the Premier League and could open their lead over Liverpool and Chelsea on Wednesday night with a win at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s team is fresh off of a wild 6-3 win over Leicester City. Now, Manchester City face a tricky trip to Brentford. The Bees’ up and down form continued on Boxing Day with a 2-0 away loss to Brighton.

Thomas Frank’s team is 13th in the Premier League standings and nine points clear of the relegation zone. The teams battling relegation all have games in hand currently following postponements due to COVID-19.

Wednesday’s match between Brentford and Manchester City will be their first-ever meeting in the Premier League. The Bees have held their own against the other teams in the top three this season.

Brentford drew 3-3 at home with Liverpool before losing 1-0 to Chelsea. The loss to Chelsea saw Brentford pepper Edouard Mendy’s goal throughout the second half.

Manchester City are on a brilliant run of form. They collected 18 points from the last 18 points possible in the Premier League. The Cityzens outscored their last six opponents 23-5.

Brentford collected eight points from the last 18 points available to them. The Bees were outscored 10-8 across their last six fixtures in the league.

Frank has 11 names on the injured, suspended, and missing list ahead of Wednesday night’s fixture. The likes of Kristoffer Ajer, Christian Norgaard, David Raya, Mathias Jorgensen, Vitaly Janelt, Julian Jeanvier, and Joshua Dasilva are all ruled out of the match.

The Brentford boss is also unlikely to have Bryan Mbeumo, Charlie Goode, Rico Henry, and Mads Rasmussen due to injuries or positive COVID-19 tests. Frank’s squad has really taken a beating in recent weeks.

Guardiola has escaped the COVID-19 issues other clubs have faced for the most part. With that said, Guardiola is unlikely to have either Rodri nor Kyle Walker following positive COVID-19 tests.

Ferran Torres remains ruled out with a broken metatarsal. Liam Delap is ruled out with an ankle injury. John Stones is nearing a return from a knock and could play.

Manchester City have the Premier League’s second-best away points total with 22 points from 27 points possible. They are joint-league leaders in goals with Liverpool having scored 50 goals. Meanwhile, they have allowed the fewest goals with a mere 12.

Brentford are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Brighton and they should suffer another loss to nil. Manchester City should claim another away win with under 2.5 goals scored.
