West Ham to end PL losing streak versus Watford

West Ham are on a terrible run of form heading into Premier League matchday 20. The Hammers, who once flirted with the Premier League top four, are on a two-match losing streak and head to Watford on Tuesday to face Claudio Ranieri’s relegation-battling side.

Watford have had their last three matches in the league postponed due to coronavirus. Although the Hornets will be well-rested for Tuesday night’s match at home, they are on a four-match losing streak.

Both of these teams need wins desperately, but for very different reasons. West Ham need to improve their chances of finishing in a European qualification place while Watford must move away from the relegation zone.

Watford took three points from the last 18 points available. They were outscored 13-4 by opponents. West Ham took just five points from the last 18 points on offer. They were outscored 10-7 by opponents across those six fixtures.

Ranieri is still without first-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster. The goalkeeper isn’t expected back from a groin injury until mid-January. Peter Etebo and Christian Kabasele are both ruled out of the match.

In addition, Ismaila Sarr, Kwadwo Bah, and Nicolas N’Koulou are ruled out through injury. Sarr’s absence has seen the team lose four straight matches since going down with a knee injury.

David Moyes has four players on the West Ham injury and suspension list for Tuesday night. Centre-back Kurt Zouma is ruled out until January due to a hamstring tendon injury. Declan Rice is ruled out of the match due to a suspension.

Centre-back Angelo Ogbonna has a knee problem and will miss out once more. Defender Aaron Cresswell has a lower back injury that continues to keep him sidelined.

Between 2015 and 2020, Watford and West Ham met 10 times in the Premier League. The Hammers posted a record of 5W-1D-4L across those 10 league meetings with Watford.

Watford have lost four of their last five home matches heading into matchday 20. West Ham are winless in four straight away matches, but they still have the fourth-best Premier League away points total. Fourteen points from 27 points possible have been obtained by the Hammers on the road.

Tuesday’s match will be West Ham’s third in six days in all competitions. Moyes’ thin squad is taking a beating, but Watford will be rusty having had three straight matches postponed. West Ham should win a low-scoring match at Vicarage Road with a clean sheet and under 2.5 goals scored.
