A Vital Süper Lig Relegation Battle Sees Kasımpaşa and Altay Play Out a Draw
Kasımpasa SK vs Altay SK Izmir - 25/12/2021

Two of Turkey’s most struggling sides will clash in the Super Lig this weekend as Kasımpaşa welcome Altay to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium as the two clubs meet early on Christmas Day and remain one of the only games going on around Europe on this day.
It's been an incredibly strange season in the Süper Lig for a variety of teams with the likes of Besiktas sitting in 10th, while even Fenerbahce are fourth, with Trabzonspor in first and Konyaspor in second.
Moreover, the heavyweights Galatasaray are 12th and only seven points ahead of the relegation zone.
Further down at the bottom, however, while it is not so peculiar in terms of expected names down there, it is extraordinarily close and clubs from 13th-20th are all in the midst of a relegation battle.
Kasımpaşa, on the other hand, are by a bit of a distance, the worst team in the league this year and it would be miraculous at this stage if they were to stay up.
The club are now sitting rock bottom of the league with only 12 points from 18 games. Worse yet, Goztepe and Yeni Malatyaspor sitting just above them have a game in hand too.
At the same time, following their 1-1 draw with Antalyaspor, the club have extended their winless run in the league to eight games.
It means Kasımpaşa sit with 10 defeats and six draws in the league and now have a six-point gap on them and their opponents this weekend to get out of the drop zone. The club have also only won twice this campaign by beating Giresunspor and Yeni Malatyaspor.
It makes this game absolutely vital and a must-win clash for both sides with a win for Kasımpaşa getting them closer to moving out of the bottom four, while a defeat for Altay pulls them right into the relegation fight and potentially into the relegation spots should Rizespor beat Gaziantep the following day.
Altay also have to be wary of their torrid goals conceded record, because despite scoring the joint most for those sitting in the bottom half, the club have let in the second most in the league with an alarming 30 goals being smashed into their own net.
It’s set to be a very close clash between two sides fighting relegation and in reality, goals are not expected in great quantities as they haven’t been all season long. Forebet predicts a tense draw here and a game that will see under 2.5 goals.
