Sampdoria and Venezia will battle it out in a relegation battle and while both sides are not in the drop zone right now ahead of this weekend, the two could find themselves thrown into the relegation chaos unless their form gets better.
At the same time, Sampdoria are in positive form once again following a crucial win over arch rivals Genoa, where they won 3-1 in that local derby. Sampdoria are now sitting with 18 points from 17 games and although far from something to shout about, the club are still eight points above the drop zone and are now two points ahead of Venezia this weekend.
The club are also coming off the back of advancing through the Coppa Italia third round, where they beat Torino 2-1 in what was a game of great importance for either side given how they sit neck-and-neck in the table, and this was their chance to get one over a rival in the table.
Sampdoria are seemingly winning a game then losing another these days, as they beat Hellas Verona 3-1 at the end of November, before losing by the same scoreline to Fiorentina just a few days later.
Lazio would then beat them 3-1 also, and in quite crazy fashion, another 3-1 scoreline came as they beat Genoa, so things are quite up and down for them right now.
They must continue on in this goalscoring form if they are to beat Venezia and distance themselves further away from the drop zone ahead of 2022 and the winter break. Nevertheless, with an eight-point gap on the drop, they will be confident in doing so right now.
As for Venezia, their arrival in Serie A has been topsy-turvy, as they’ve been in and out of the relegation zone all season long but now sit with a healthier 16 points and a six-point gap on the bottom three. A win here and they will begin to make great strides towards the top 10 ahead of 2022, but it seems unlikely.
Unlikely simply because they have let in 30 goals already this season and scored only 16 and against a Sampdoria side that is seeing their form be hit and miss but also score a lot of goals, it’s tough to see how the troubling Venezia side get a result here.
In fact, Forebet predicts another game that will see over 2.5 goals in a Sampdoria fixture with the club expected to win against Venezia here and get closer to the top 10.
