It’s second-bottom against top in the Premier League on Sunday as struggling Newcastle United host in-form Manchester City at St. James’ Park.
Man City sit one point clear of second-place Liverpool following a thumping 7-0 victory over Leeds United in midweek.
At the opposite end of the standings, Newcastle find themselves level with last-place Norwich City on ten points – 31 points behind Man City.
The Magpies were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday, suffering their second straight defeat in the process.
Despite taking the lead early in the game, Eddie Howe’s men saw just 25% possession and faced a whopping 23 shots from the hosts.
Newcastle have only managed to win one of their 17 Premier League matches this season, recording seven draws and nine losses along the way.
It is also worth noting that Newcastle have the worst defensive record in the division, having conceded a massive 37 goals this term.
On the flip side, Man City completely destroyed Leeds in midweek. Six different players hit the target in the thrashing, with Kevin De Bruyne bagging a brace.
Guardiola’s men enjoyed 65% possession last time out and also racked up a whopping 31 shots – 15 of which were on target.
City have now won each of their previous seven Premier League games, scoring 20 goals in the process. They have also kept a clean sheet in four of their past seven outings.
Having netted 40 goals in 17 league games this term, the Cityzens are averaging just under 2.5 goals per game.
Let’s not forget that Guardiola’s men boast the best defensive record in the division, too, having conceded just nine goals so far.
Head-to-head: Man City have won each of their last four meetings with Newcastle across all competitions, scoring a combined total of 13 goals along the way.
The Magpies have only managed to win one of their previous 12 matches against City in all competitions, recording two draws and nine losses in that time.
Team news: Newcastle’s injury list has shrunk in recent weeks, with Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett the only absentees.
Joao Cancelo returns from suspension for Man City this weekend. However, Ferran Torres remains sidelined through injury. Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva are also doubts.
Given the 31-point gulf between these two sides, Man City shouldn’t struggle to get the better of Newcastle.
Forebet predicts that both teams will score. However, Man City will almost certainly come out on top.
