Vital Clash in the Serie A Title Race as AC Milan Host Napoli

The final fixture to be played in the Italian Serie A this weekend is huge as AC Milan welcome Napoli to the San Siro.

Both teams are hoping to win the title this season and the hosts begin the weekend in second place on 39 points while the visitors are in fourth place on 36 points, so this is a key fixture.

AC Milan come into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw at Udinese last weekend. It appeared as though the home team were going to take the points after scoring early in the match but AC Milan kept going until the final whistle and equalised late in the game to take a point.

It was important not to lose the match having suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss at home in the Champions League against Liverpool, a result which saw AC Milan drop out of Europe all together this season.

In terms of Serie A, AC Milan are on a 3 match unbeaten run having defeated Genoa 3-0 away and Salernitana 2-0 at home. In fact, AC Milan have lost only 2 of their last 20 matches in Serie A, which is a great record.

Trends show AC Milan have scored at least one goal in their last 18 league games, including each of their last 8 at home. They have also conceded goals in 3 of their 5 most recent home Serie A matches.

Napoli make the trip to the San Siro having suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home against Empoli in Serie A last weekend. The only goal of the game was scored in the 70th minute and Napoli failed to find a reply in the remaining 20 minutes of the game.

That result means Napoli have recorded just a single victory from their last 4 fixtures in all competitions and that came at home against Leicester City in the Europa League.

Form in Serie A has dipped in recent weeks for Napoli and they have recorded only one win from their 6 most recent league games. Away form shows one victory from their last 4 matches but Napoli have been difficult to beat on the road, losing only one of their last 12 away Serie A games.

Trends show Napoli have seen both teams score in 3 of their last 5 away league matches.

Looking ahead to the team news and Pietro Pellegri and Simon Kjær will definitely miss out due to injury for AC Milan. There are also doubts over the fitness of Rafael Leão, Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic, and Davide Calabria.

Napoli have several players on the treatment table including Elif Elmas, Piotr Zielinski, Stanislav Lobotka, Fabián Ruiz, and Kalidou Koulibaly. Alessandro Zanoli is a doubt.

This is going to be an intriguing match and we should see plenty of goal mouth action. It would not be a surprise to see both teams score and over 2.5 goals, meaning this game could end in a 2-2 draw.
