Lille can hold their own against Lyon

A mid-table clash between Lille and Lyon is up next in the French top flight as Sunday afternoon sees both teams vying for all three points at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in a bid to lift themselves up into the top half of Ligue 1.
Following recent defeats to Clermont and PSG from mid-October to the end of that month (both of which were inflicted upon Lille away from home), Sunday’s hosts have since rallied by putting together a solid run of five matches without defeat in the domestic top flight.
Three draws on the trot with Angers 1-1, Monaco 2-2 and a 1-1 draw with Nantes saw Lille pick up some valuable points before recording back-to-back wins against Rennes and Troyes which should give the hosts plenty of confidence heading into this Sunday’s clash with Lyon.
In addition, Lille have made themselves a tough unit to beat on home soil at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy as the hosts are unbeaten in their last seven games overall while forward, David (11 goals), has been in form for the hosts this season.
Onto Lyon and the visitors have dropped down to 12th place in the Ligue 1 standings after failing to win their last two matches in the French top flight, losing 2-1 at home to Reims before being held to a 2-2 draw away at fourth from bottom club, Bordeaux.
Lyon have posted a mixed bag of results in recent weeks in Ligue 1 as the visitors have picked up wins against Monaco, Lens and Montpellier but they’ve also slipped to losses against Nice, Rennes and the aforementioned Reims as well.
The majority of Lyon’s success so far this season has also been achieved on home soil at their Groupama Stadium where they’ve lost just once to date in this campaign in addition to picking up four wins and three draws.
However, the same can’t be said for their exploits away from home.
Lyon have managed to pick up just the one win out of their last six outings on the road which was at Montpellier but three defeats within this sequence suggests this could be a tough trip to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday lunchtime.
Lille have been solid at home, so they will extend their unbeaten run in Ligue 1.
