Man City expected to edge out resilient Wolves

Manchester City will aim to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side sit one point clear of second-place Liverpool and two-points ahead of third-place Chelsea, so they can’t afford to slip up this weekend.

As for Wolves, they currently find themselves eighth in the standings – 14 points shy of Manchester City.

Man City suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday. Still, they finished one point clear of Paris Saint-Germain in Group A.

That was the Cityzens’ first defeat in eight matches across all competitions, ending a run of seven consecutive victories.

In the Premier League, Guardiola’s men have lost just six of their previous 45 games – underlining their dominance.

It is also worth pointing out that Manchester City have scored at least one goal in each of their past eight outings in all competitions.

By contrast, Wolves have failed to find the back of the net in each of their previous three encounters. That is not good news for Bruno Lage’s side.

With just 12 goals to their name, the Wanderers are the second-lowest scorers in England’s top division this season.

However, they have only conceded 13 goals in 15 league outings this term. That means they boast the fourth-best defensive record in the EPL.

It is also worth noting that Wolves have lost just two of their last ten Premier League matches, picking up five wins and three draws along the way.

Head-to-head: Across the past 16 league meetings between Man City and Wolves, the Wanderers have only managed to claim four wins.

Wolves have won just two of their previous 11 matches against the Cityzens, registering two draws and seven losses in the process.

Team news: Ferran Torres remains Man City’s only long-term injury absentee. However, there are question marks over the fitness of Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte.

Wolves will be without injured quartet Willy Boly, Yerson Mosquera, Pedro Neto and Jonny Castro Otto on Saturday.

Although Wolves have shown a great deal of resilience under Lage this term, Man City are expected to flex their muscles on Saturday.

Forebet predicts that Guardiola’s men will score over 1.5 goals on their way to beating Wolves. That said, the visitors are likely to get on the scoresheet.
