Bayern Munich welcome Barcelona to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday as the Champions League group stage draws to a close.
The German side have already booked their spot in the knockout phase. They sit atop Group E having won each of their five UCL matches this season.
On the flip side, Barcelona find themselves second – eight points behind Bayern and two points ahead of third-place Benfica.
If Barca lose to Bayern and Benfica beat Dynamo Kiev on Matchday 6, the Spanish club will be eliminated from the competition.
Bayern Munich will be in high spirits after beating rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga at the weekend.
The Bavarians came from behind to beat Dortmund 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park. As a result, they now sit four points clear at the top of the table.
When you look at the bigger picture, Bayern have won 11 of their previous 13 Bundesliga outings – and they have replicated that form in the Champions League.
The German champions have scored a whopping 19 goals across their five straight UCL victories, conceding only three goals along the way.
As for Barcelona, they have endured an indifferent Champions League campaign – winning just two of their five matches.
The Catalans were beaten by both Bayern and Benfica before doing the double of Dynamo Kiev. They then recorded a goalless draw with Benfica in the previous round.
It is worth noting that Barcelona were beaten 1-0 by Real Betis on Saturday. That defeat ended a four-game unbeaten streak for the club in La Liga.
With a record of W6-D5-L4 in La Liga, Barca find themselves a mammoth 16 points behind first-place Real Madrid.
Head-to-head: Bayern claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the reverse fixture at Camp Nou back in September.
Bayern Munich have won each of their previous three meetings with Barca, scoring a colossal 14 goals in the process.
Team news: Bayern will be without injured quartet Josip Stanisic, Marcel Sabitzer, Bouna Sarr and Joshua Kimmich on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will travel to Germany without Martin Braithwaite, Sergi Roberto, Pedri, Sergio Aguero, Ansu Fati and Moussa Wague.
Although Barcelona appear to have turned the corner, there is no denying that Bayern Munich are the stronger team in this matchup.
