Arsenal expected to heap more misery on struggling Everton

Everton will be looking to bounce back from a humiliating Merseyside Derby defeat when they welcome Arsenal to Goodison Park on Monday night.

The Toffees were crushed 4-1 by Liverpool in midweek. As a result, they find themselves fourteenth in the Premier League table.

The Gunners also lost in midweek, going down 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford. They now sit fifth in the standings – eight points ahead of Everton.

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Everton were completely played off the park on Wednesday, underlining the gulf in quality between the two Merseyside clubs.

The Toffees saw just 31% possession and recorded two attempts on target, while Liverpool racked up 16 shots and totally dominated proceedings.

Rafa Benitez’s men have now failed to win any of their previous eight Premier League games, recording two draws and six defeats in the process.

Considering they won four of their first six league games under Benitez, it’s fair to say that Everton have fallen off a cliff over the past couple of months.

If they don’t start picking up positive results soon, Benitez could find himself heading for the Goodison Park exit.

As for the Gunners, they took the lead at Old Trafford but ended up losing 3-2 after a classic Cristiano Ronaldo brace.

Despite enjoying 56% possession and racking up 17 shots on Thursday, Mikel Arteta’s men left Old Trafford with nothing to show for their efforts.

Arsenal have now lost two of their previous three Premier League games, having suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool a fortnight ago.

That said, they have won four of their past six league matches and have lost only two of their last 11 – sealing seven wins and two draws along the way.

Head-to-head: Everton did the double over the Gunners last season. After winning 2-1 on home soil, the Toffees claimed a 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

When you look at the bigger picture, however, Everton have managed to win just five of their previous 30 meetings with Arsenal across all competitions.

Team news: Everton have a number of high-profile injuries at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina, Salomon Rondon, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes are all currently sidelined.

Arsenal will be without injured duo Sead Kolasinac and Granit Xhaka on Monday. There are also question marks over the fitness of Bukayo Saka.

Although the Gunners lost on Thursday, they have clearly upped their game in recent weeks. By contrast, Everton are on the slide.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal will score over 2.5 goals en route to crushing the Toffees, handing the hosts a fourth straight defeat in the process.
