The bottom two in the Premier League go head-to-head at St. James’ Park on Tuesday as Newcastle United and Norwich City aim to move closer to safety under the guidance of new managers.

Second-bottom Norwich have nine points to their name after picking up two wins and a draw from their previous three outings.

Meanwhile, last-place Newcastle sit on six points – three points behind Norwich – having failed to win any of their opening 13 games this season.

Eddie Howe’s first game in the dugout ended in disappointment as the Magpies went down 2-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Newcastle managed to reach half-time without conceding, but second-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli inflicted yet another defeat on the cellar dwellers.

Howe’s side saw just 34% possession at the Emirates and faced a whopping 24 shots. Despite registering five attempts on target, they were unable to find a way through.

The Magpies have now drawn six and lost seven of their 13 Premier League matches this term, conceding a whopping 29 goals along the way.

As a result, they have the worst defensive record in the division. It goes without saying that Howe has got a colossal job on his hands.

On the flip side, Norwich have been enjoying something of a revival of late, having taken seven points from their last three outings.

Daniel Farke was sacked after the 2-1 win over Brentford before the international break, with ex-Aston Villa boss Dean Smith coming in to replace him.

Smith oversaw a 2-1 win against Southampton in his first match before leading the Canaries to a goalless draw with Wolves on Saturday.

Remarkably, 77% of Norwich’s points this term has come from their previous three games – pointing towards a significant upturn.

Head-to-head: Newcastle and Norwich last faced each other during the 2019/20 Premier League campaign. Norwich claimed a 3-1 home win that season before a goalless draw in Newcastle.

Norwich have lost just one of their last five meetings the Newcastle across all competitions, picking up two wins and two draws in the process.

Team news: Newcastle duo Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles will miss the visit of Norwich through suspension. Dwight Gayle and Paul Dummett are both injured.

As for the Canaries, they will be without injured trio Christoph Zimmermann, Sam Byram and Mathias Normann on Tuesday.

Both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat on Tuesday. For that reason, the draw is the most likely outcome of this clash.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle and Norwich will play out a high-scoring draw, with both teams scoring over 1.5 goals.
