RB Salzburg to Put One Foot in the Knockout Rounds and Deliver Lille a Serious Blow
Lille OSC vs RB Salzburg - 23/11/2021
6084
Lille will welcome RB Salzburg to the Stade Pierre Mauroy this Tuesday as the two clubs fight it out for qualification into the knockout rounds with absolutely everything to play for still in Group G where the away side sit top with Lille in second.
Only four points are separating Salzburg in first place and Sevilla at the bottom of the group and with two games still left to play in this tense group, bottom could replace top with back-to-back wins, while the reigning champions of France could easily slip into the Europa League spot.
Lille are on five points, level with Wolfsburg and they are only ahead of the German outfit with them conceding more goals and subsequently off the boil slightly with an inferior goal difference.
Now, a victory for them against Sevilla and a defeat for the French side and disaster may ensue for the Ligue 1 kings.
Lille are also experiencing a tough time with things on the domestic front. They are sat in 12th right now and where they have won only four games so far from the 14 played thus far, losing five and drawing the other five.
To make matters worse for the French champions, they have a negative goal difference in Ligue 1 too.
After scoring only 18 goals and conceding an alarming 21, they are sat with a goal difference of -3 and they are only four points above the drop zone which makes it one of the worst title defences in Ligue 1 history right now.
Lille are also winless in their past seven league games having not registered a victory since defeating Marseille back in early October.
They’ve since failed to beat the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Brest and Angers, while even drawing with Sevilla during this time. As for the Champions League, they did help themselves by beating Sevilla last time out.
Salzburg, on the other hand, are once again topping the Austrian Bundesliga and combine this with their top spot in the Champions League too and it all points to a very positive season for them right now.
In fact, with 34 goals scored and nine conceded, they remain unbeaten on the domestic scene.
Only Wolfsburg have beaten them thus far in Europe which is why Forebet predicts they will win this game in a fixture that sees under 2.5 goals.
