In what is one of the biggest games in Brazil this season down at the bottom of the table, Sport Recife will play hosts to Bahia at the Estádio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho as both sides fight for survival with just a few gameweeks remaining.
For the home side, their destiny does look sealed and life down in the Serie B might just be over the horizon for Sport Recife, as they have played 33 games compared to most around the relegation zone, who have one or two games in hand.
Combine this with their 30 points from the 33 games and a six-point on the safety spot of 16th, and it’s fair to say that they are heading down into the second tier.
Nevertheless, given that this six-point gap is held by Bahia, a win for Recife and they will be back within three points, but with the 16th-placed side still boasting two games in hand.
So, even with a win here, their chances of surviving in Serie A this season remain incredibly slim. For Bahia, however, a win and they will step away from the drop zone even further, especially if Juventude can’t beat Fluminense.
Sport Recife have won just seven games so far this season and more worryingly, they have netted just 20 times in this time, which is the worst in the league by a bit of a distance. At the same time, they've now lost three games in a row, ruining their excellent form shown in October, where they won four times.
The club have only conceded 33 times from the 33 games they’ve played, which whilst not exceptional, is fairly commendable given their league position and lack of attacking qualities. Nevertheless, they have still kept just one clean sheet in their past six games.
As for Bahia, their losing ways continued this past week as they lost 3-0 to Flamengo not long after gaining a vital point to fellow relegation fighters, Juventude, and beating Sao Paulo.
They've now won nine games, drawn nine, and lost 13 but conceded an alarming 42 goals - this is the third-worst in the league.
Bahia have still put up a fight, however, and scored 33 times in their 31 fixtures, which is the most for those outside of the Copa Sudamericana group stage spots.
Given the home side’s torrid attacking ability and the lack of clean sheets recently, Forebet predicts an away win but in a tight game that will see under 2.5 goals.
