Girona to Edge Past Cartagena in a Crucial Mid-Table Segunda Division Battle
3293

Girona and FC Cartagena will clash at the Estadi Montilivi on Sunday as the two meet in a vital mid-table battle where one side could rocket themselves towards the top six with a win while the other may be sucked closer to relegation.

It has been a tough season for both sides so far ahead of this one, especially for Girona, who were expected to battle it out towards the top end of the table and challenge for life back in La Liga.

It hasn’t been that way, and they now sit only four points ahead of the drop zone during a worrying time for the club.

Girona have still managed to win five games so far this season, which in reality, is a pretty decent turnover from 15 games for a side in mid-table.

On the other hand, they’ve let in an alarming 18 goals and lost seven times already, meaning they’ve also drawn three other games in the Segunda Division.

What seems to be the main issue for Girona is the lack of consistency. A win tends to be followed by a loss or a draw, and they are yet to put together a win streak spanning three games this season, while they have only won twice on the bounce once this campaign, which came recently as they beat Alcorcon and Fuenlabrada.

Although they reigned supreme in both these games, it wasn’t without troubles as they went behind against Alcorcon until a Chrithian Stuani hat-trick in the second half secured all three points.

Elsewhere, Fuenlabrada also put on a late flurry and pulled one back late on, but it wasn’t enough to snatch a draw.

As for Cartagena, it has been a much better start to the campaign for them this year than it was last time out as they sit ninth in the table, four points ahead of Girona, and just five off Tenerife in third, meaning a win could potentially rocket them closer to the top six if other results go their way and they also win.

The main worries for Cartagena heading into this one is the goals scored and the goals conceded, as they are seeing goals shipped in at both ends at a high rate.

In fact, they’ve scored the third-highest amount of goals with 21, but also conceded the most goals from teams outside of the relegation zone by letting in 22 in.

With this in mind, Forebet predicts a home win in a game that will see over 2.5 goals.
