Title-chasing Palmeiras to Pick up Three Points on the Road Against Fluminense
3938

Palmeiras’ title charge could be won or lost this weekend as they travel to the famous Maracanã to meet with Fluminense in a must-win battle at both the top and middle of the table for both sides.

In reality, Palmeiras’ chances of winning the Serie A over in Brazil have decreased ever so slightly week on week over the past few months. This isn’t because their form has been so poor, but mainly because the form of Atletico Mineiro has been so superior to everyone else in Brazil.

They currently sit 10 points clear of Palmeiras ahead of their clash with Fluminense and with only seven games left to go and 21 points up for grabs, every single game is now a must win for the title-chasing side from Sao Paulo.

Regardless of whether or not they do win Serie A, it has been a wonderful season filled with great moments and exceptional stints of form from the Sao Paulo natives, and finishing second to a Mineiro side in scintillating form is no bad feat.

Nevertheless, they will chase them down until it is mathematically impossible, as they have shown in abundance already this season and with their 51 goals scored already this season, it’s fair to say they are a force to be reckoned with moving forward.

This excellent goalscoring record sees them sit just ahead of the league leaders on the goals front, but Flamengo in third have netted the most with 57.

What has, however, been their downfall this campaign is not the goals scored but how many they have let in as they’ve managed to concede 38 times in only 31 games, which is 13 more times than Mineiro. They are still in great form regardless, and they are expected to win here once more.

As for Fluminense, it's been a season to forget for them as they have been in topsy-turvy form all season long with 11 games won and 11 games lost all but summing up how up and down they have been in this Serie A season.

The club have also seen 32 goals go in their own net, and ship just 29 the opposite way and they are still yet to put together a win streak that spans across more than four games this campaign.

All of this puts them in ninth position in the table and 16 points of their weekend opponents, but just seven off the top four.

Forebet predicts a close game here, but given Palmeiras’ brilliant form, Forebet predicts they will win here in a game that should see over 2.5 goals.
