Romania and Iceland to Play Out a Tight Draw in Group J
Romania vs Iceland - 11/11/2021
2583
Romania will welcome Iceland to the Arena Națională for what is a massive match for the home side while the away outfit are extremely unlikely to qualify from Group J regardless of the result here.
In fact, should Romania defeat Iceland, it will end their hopes of finishing inside the second round position, which is obtained by finishing as the runners-up in any group in Europe. A win for the home side puts them eight clear of Iceland with one game to go.
A victory for the Icelandic team and they will be back within two points heading into the final game of the campaign, where it could well be all to play for. This is, however, still an unlikely route and it’s going to take a lot to happen elsewhere in order for them to make it to Qatar 2022.
Top of the group sits Germany, who have already secured a spot in the finals next year, but with North Macedonia and Armenia right on Romania’s tail, Group J remains one of the tightest across the continent.
Romania have managed to win four games so far from eight encounters, losing three times and drawing only once. This has meant they have let in a commendable eight goals from only eight games and they have been relatively well-drilled at the back throughout.
On the other hand, the nation has only seen their side score 11 times from the eight fixtures thus far, which is far from alarming but not exactly promising either considering Iceland themselves have the same amount and have won two less games.
As for Iceland, it’s been a tough campaign in Group J and they have never really got going and found any sort of consistency. Last time out, they thumped Lichtenstein 4-0, which is nothing impressive by any means.
Just prior to this, they snatched valuable points from North Macedonia and Armenia to give them a fighting chance to make it to Qatar 2022.
Iceland were brought back down to earth slightly when Germany beat them 4-0. In the international break just before losing to the Germans, Arnar Viðarsson’s men also lost to Romania 2-0 which doesn’t bode well for attempting to get a result here on away turf.
Nevertheless, with Romania struggling for goals and Iceland keeping a relatively decent defensive record, Forebet expects a close game here and one which will see under 2.5 goals as Forebet anticipates a draw.
