Rayo Vallecano to Continue Their Winning Ways With a Win Over Celta Vigo

One of the continent’s biggest surprises this season will continue their march towards a European fight as Rayo Vallecano play hosts to Celta Vigo in La Liga with another win expected from the home side.

Across all of Europe, with teams such as Real Sociedad and Napoli grabbing the headlines for their unlikely title quests, it’s easy to overlook the absolute brilliance that is going on right now in Madrid with one of the supposed ‘lesser teams’.

Of course, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are still stealing the back pages in the Spanish capital, but with Vallecano sitting in fifth right now, it’s perhaps the story of the season so far.

In fact, the club were playing in the second tier last season and were expected to battle relegation all season long and are instead completely upsetting the odds.

Much of Vallecano’s success has come from the arrival of the legendary Colombian, Radamel Falcao. The ex-Atletico man is back in Madrid now and has currently netted four La Liga goals in just five games for his new side when many people were questioning whether or not he still had it.

The striker also scored the winner against Barcelona last time out, in what was easily the result of the season in La Liga. The 1-0 win for Vallecano spelled the end for Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, while it also moved Falcao and co. into fifth in the league table and two points off title favourites Real and five points off table-topping Sociedad.

Across the season, the newly-promoted side may end up dropping off and despite such great form now, they are not expected to finish in the Europa League spot they currently occupy.

However, they sit four points ahead of Barcelona and level on points with champions Atletico, but these two clubs do have a game in hand over the high-flying Vallecano.

As for Celta Vigo, the same cannot be said and their season so far has been far from magical. In fact, a defeat here could launch them into the relegation zone should other results go against them down at the bottom.

Regardless, they currently sit only two points above 17th-placed Cadiz and have conceded an alarming 14 goals so far this campaign and scored just 10 of their own from 11 games.

Despite beating Getafe 3-0 last weekend, a 2-0 loss to the league leaders Sociedad quickly brought them back down to earth, and Forebet predicts they will lose again here in a game that will see under 2.5 goals.
