Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are locked on 16 points at the top of the Bundesliga as the two sides prepare to go head-to-head in North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday.

Thanks to their superior goal difference, Bayern Munich find themselves ahead of Bayer Leverkusen. Both teams have conceded seven times, but Bayern have scored four goals more.

Leverkusen head into Sunday’s clash on the back of five straight wins in all competitions – three in the Bundesliga and two in the Europa League.

Bayer have made a strong start to the campaign on all fronts and will now be confident of troubling the Bavarians.

It is also worth noting that Leverkusen have lost just one of their previous ten outings across all competitions.

Not only have Leverkusen been scoring plenty of goals recently, but they have also been keeping clean sheets.

They have scored in each of their past 12 encounters in all competitions and come into Sunday’s game on a run of three straight shutouts.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich drew their opening league game of the season before registering five consecutive victories.

They suffered their first defeat of the campaign before the international break, however, losing 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern have also started the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League campaign strongly, beating Barcelona 3-0 before dispatching Dynamo Kyiv 5-0.

Back in the Bundesliga, Bayern are the top scorers, having netted 24 goals across their opening seven games (3.4 goals per game).

That said, two sides – SC Freiburg and Mainz – have a better defensive record, meaning Julian Nagelsmann will be eager to tighten things up at the back.

Head-to-head: Bayern have won each of their previous four meetings with Leverkusen, scoring a combined total of 12 goals (3 goals per game).

Leverkusen have managed to win just two of their last 14 matches against Bayern, suffering ten defeats along the way.

Team news: Leverkusen will be without injured quartet Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Edmond Tapsoba, Julian Baumgartlinger and Mitchel Bakker on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have no fresh injury concerns, although backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich remains on the treatment table.

Although Leverkusen have made a promising start to the season, Bayern’s record in this fixture is difficult to ignore.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Bayern will score over 2.5 goals on their way to overcoming Leverkusen.
