Barely Anything Set to Separate Uruguay and Colombia in Their Must-Win CONMEBOL Clash
2503

Uruguay and Colombia will battle for two likely remaining qualification places in the South American World Cup Qualifying on Friday with the two nations sat way behind leaders Brazil but a little closer to Argentina.

Simply put, if either side really desires a ticket to Qatar 2022 next year, a win here is a must and a defeat might just spell the end for another, especially if that defeat falls at the hands of Colombia.

In the last international break in September, Uruguay did pick up seven points from a possible nine and the third-placed nation will return to action where a win would no doubt make them third favourites to qualify behind Argentina and Brazil.

La Celeste were 1-0 winners over Ecuador after they drew with Peru and comfortably beat Bolivia, but it was Gaston Pereiro's stoppage-time that got all three points against Ecuador.

Oscar Tabarez's side needed such results following a defeat to Brazil and disappointing draws with Paraguay and Venezuela, but now, a win could really start to change their fortunes for Qatar.

As per usual, Uruguay have a team top-tier European pedigree and they are now expected to seal a fourth successive finals place, especially if they beat Colombia.

Keeping at bay one of the fellow contenders to make next year's finals is a must now, as with successive trips to Argentina and Brazil coming up next week, there is a chance Uruguay could seriously slip away and be in trouble.

As for Colombia, they sit fifth in the standings and are locked together on points with Ecuador, who they trail only on goal difference and a defeat here might just spell the end for them qualifying automatic.

The 2014 World Cup quarter-finalists got just two wins from their opening eight qualification fixtures which put manager Reinaldo Rueda under serious pressure.

However, the former Ecuador coach secured a commendable third place finish in Brazil at the Copa America.

Since then, draws away to Bolivia and Paraguay have heaped the pressure back on, but a 3-1 victory over Chile last time out has boosted hopes once more.

Given the form here between the two and the must-win nature for either side, Forebet predicts a draw here that will see under 2.5 goals as not much is separating them in the table and in the form guide.
