3076
Two teams with almost identical records clash in Spain’s Segunda Division on Friday night as Real Valladolid welcome Malaga to Estadio Jose Zorrilla.
Both sides have picked up three wins, two draws and three losses from their opening eight games this term – leaving them with 11 points apiece.
However, ninth-place Valladolid lead tenth-place Malaga on goal difference, with two teams above them also on 11 points.
Valladolid started the season in impressive form, taking seven points from a possible nine from their first three matches.
They took a turn for the worse soon after, however, suffering three consecutive defeats without scoring a single goal.
Following a recent upturn, Valladolid head into Friday’s clash on a two-game unbeaten streak. They beat Alcorcon before drawing with Ponferradina last time out.
Israeli striker Shon Weissman is responsible for the bulk of the team’s attacking output, having notched three goals and one assist in seven league appearances this season.
As for Malaga, they lost just one of their opening five league outings this term – picking up two wins and two draws along the way.
They have since lost two of their previous three games, though, suffering a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Ponferradina in the process.
However, Malaga returned to winning ways last weekend. Mathieu Peybernes score the only goal of the game against Fuenlabrada, while the hosts enjoyed 60% possession.
Having netted only seven goals this term, just four Segunda Division teams have scored fewer goals than Malaga.
Head-to-head: The last competitive meetings between Valladolid and Malaga came during the 2013/14 La Liga season. The teams drew 2-2 in Valladolid before drawing 1-1 in Malaga.
In fact, five of the previous six league meetings between Valladolid and Malaga have ended level, with Malaga claiming the only victory in that time.
Team news: Valladolid have multiple injury problems at the moment, with El Hacen, Raul Carnero, Palo Hervias, Kike Perez, Hugo Vallejo, Joaquin Fernandez and Javi Snachez all on the sidelines.
By contrast, Malaga have just one injury absentee right now, with defensive midfielder Luis Munoz on the treatment table.
This should be a relatively tight encounter between two evenly matched sides, although Valladolid are expected to benefit from the home advantage on Friday.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Valladolid will secure a low-scoring victory over Malaga – achieving a shutout in the process.
