The second round of 2022 World Cup qualifying continues in Africa this week and on Wednesday the 6th of October we have a meeting between Morocco and Guinea-Bissau.

This is a Group I match, with the hosts currently in second place on 3 points and the visitors top of the group on 4 points, making this a crucial match.

Morocco come into the game having started their campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Sudan last time out.

Morocco opened the scoring after only 10 minutes and doubled their advantage not long after half time. It was a good start to the World Cup qualifying campaign for Morocco but this should be a tougher test.

Morocco are on a 18 match unbeaten run in all competitions, including friendly games. They were successful at the 2020 African Nations Championship, beating Mali 2-0 in the final and Morocco have since played 5 matches, two of which were in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Morocco beat Burundi 1-0 at home and were held to a 0-0 draw in Mauritania.

Trends show Morocco are undefeated in 27 of their last 28 games on home soil.

They are on a run of 7  matches without defeat in World Cup qualifying and have remained undefeated in each of their last 8 World Cup qualifying fixtures at home. Morocco have not conceded a goal in their last 6 home World Cup qualifying games.

Guinea-Bissau have made a good start to World Cup qualifying having played two matches in Group I. They started with a 1-1 draw at home against Guinea, conceding the opening goal after only 7 minutes.

However, Guinea-Bissau fought back to score the equaliser early in the second half to take a point.

The second match of 2022 World Cup qualifying for Guinea-Bissau was away from home against Sudan and Guinea-Bissau came away with a 4-2 victory.

Guinea-Bissau found themselves 3-0 up at half-time and despite conceding 2 goals in the second half, were always in control of the game.

That result means Guinea-Bissau undefeated in their last 4 matches, including wins over Eswatini away and Congo at home in African Cup of Nations qualifying.

However, Guinea-Bissau have won just 4 of their last 24 away matches in all competitions but are undefeated in their last 3 away World Cup qualifying games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Morocco have a strong European based contingent in their squad, including Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi, Romain Saïss, Sofyan Amrabat, and Youssef En-Nesyri.

Guinea-Bissau have several players based in Portugal and France in their squad. Goalkeeper Jonas Mendes is the most experienced player in the team having won 45 caps and he is currently playing in South Africa.

Morocco are the favourites to win this group but this has the makings of being a difficult game. We know Morocco are strong defensively but Guinea-Bissau will be looking to keep a clean sheet themselves in the hope they can take a point.

However., Morocco the quality in attack to see them off and this game could end with a home win to nil.
