Sevilla to keep pressure on the top of the table with win over Granada

Sevilla are going all-in on winning La Liga this season. Julen Lopetegui’s team has taken 14 points from 18 this season and are one of four La Liga teams not to suffer a loss this season.

On Sunday night, Julen Lopetegui’s team face off with Granada at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes. The Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes has not been a kind place to Sevilla in recent years.

Granada are unbeaten in five of their last seven home games against Sevilla in all competitions.

Last season, Granada defeated Sevilla 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Yangel Herrera in the final eight minutes of the game. Sevilla returned the favour with a win at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan 2-1 thanks to goals from Ivan Rakitic (penalty) and Lucas Ocampos on either side of halftime.

Granada got a late goal from Roberto Soldado from the penalty spot, but the goal came too little too late. Los Rojiblancos have taken just one point from nine this season at home. They have lost two straight matches at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

Roberto Moreno’s team has been outscored 6-4 by opponents at home this season. Granada’s Maxime Gonalons is ruled out of the match with a hamstring injury. Defender Domingos Duarte is also ruled out thanks to a shoulder injury.

Granada goalie Luis Maximiano has a muscle injury and is a doubt. Midfielder Yan Brice is also a doubt with a hamstring strain. Defender Neyder Lozano is a doubt following a skull fracture.

Lopetegui’s team has dropped points on the road this season, so an away win is no guarantee – especially with Sevilla’s history at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

Sevilla have taken five points from nine on the road in 2021-22. They have scored just two away goals while conceding one to opponents. Lopetegui will be without striker Youssef En-Nesyri. The forward has a hamstring injury and will be out until November.

En-Nesyri's absence is a major blow to Sevilla. The striker is co-leader in goals for Sevilla with three. Erik Lamela has scored three times as well, while Rafa Mir has added two. Thomas Delaney will miss the match due to a red card suspension.

Sevilla have not played in recent seasons at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

However, Lopetegui’s team should end their poor run of results at Granada with a win. Two of Sevilla’s last six games finished with over 2.5 goals scored and Sunday’s game versus Granada should see more than 2.5 goals shared.
