Spurs tipped to bounce back from NLD defeat with win over Villa

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Aston Villa to North London on Sunday, hoping to put last weekend’s humiliating defeat to Arsenal behind them.

Spurs were completely outplayed by their bitter rivals and have slipped to eleventh in the Premier League table as a result.

On the flip side, Aston Villa find themselves eighth – one point ahead of Tottenham – having won each of their previous two matches.

Having won their opening three Premier League games this season, Spurs have now lost each of their previous three.

Not only have they conceded exactly three goals in all of their past three league outings, but they have also netted just a single goal in the process.

Only two sides in the Premier League – Wolves and Norwich – have scored fewer goals than Nuno’s men this term.

To make matters worse, just six teams have a poorer defensive record than Tottenham in England’s top tier.

However, Tottenham produced an impressive display to thrash Mura 5-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday.

Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso both scored within the opening eight minutes, before substitute Harry Kane netted a second-half hat-trick.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have enjoyed an upturn of late after making an indifferent start to their Premier League campaign.

Dean Smith’s men only managed to win one of their opening four matches, but they have since won each of their previous two.

Having dispatched Everton 3-0 on home soil, the Villains went to Old Trafford last weekend and claimed an impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

As a result, Villa have only lost one of their last seven games in all competitions – suggesting they will be difficult to beat this season.

Head-to-head: Aston Villa have only managed to win two of their last 21 meetings with Tottenham in all competitions, losing 12 of the previous 14.

That said, Villa claimed a 2-1 away victory over Tottenham when they last faced each other back in May 2021.

Team news: Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn is set to miss Sunday’s clash through injury, while Ryan Sessegnon is also unavailable.

Villa currently have five players sidelined through injury – Keinan Davis, Trezeguet, Axel Tuanzebe, Morgan Sanson and Leon Bailey.

Although Tottenham were poor against Arsenal last weekend, their recent record against Aston Villa is hugely impressive.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Spurs will score over 1.5 goals on their way to victory over Villa – keeping a clean sheet in the process.
