Two teams looking to march towards the European spots during the early stages of the new Serie A season meet this weekend as Udinese play hosts to Fiorentina at the Stadio Friuli with both clubs coming off the back of their second defeat of the season.
Udinese travelled to Rome to battle with Jose Mourinh’s in-form Roma in midweek and despite putting up a decent test on away turf for the Portuguese’s side, Tammy Abraham’s goal was the difference, and Udinese stayed in mid-table as a result of the defeat.
Nevertheless, it hasn’t been a bad start for them in Serie A, but there isn’t much to shout about either as well, with two defeats, two wins and a draw after five games in Italy.
However, considering they finished 14th last season with 18 defeats across the entire league campaign, right now, Udinese should be somewhat positive about the current landscape of Serie A.
So far, in their two victories, Luca Gotti’s men have managed to Spezia 1-0 thanks to a very late goal from Lazar Samardzic, after they also triumphed over Venezia with goals from Ignacio Pussetto, Gerard Deulofeu and Nahuel Molina.
On the other hand, these were games they were games they were expected to win and the club were rapidly brought back down to earth following a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the in-form Napoli and soon after, a 1-0 defeat to Roma.
Fiorentina, on the other hand, have had a pretty decent start to life in the 2021/22 Serie A season considering they fought relegation towards the end of the last campaign.
The club currently sit sixth in the table, which is ahead of the likes of Lazio, Juventus and Udinese. This comes as a result of three victories and two defeats and no draws, so early on, Fiorentina can be pleased with the start and hopeful of a better season.
Moreover, Vincenzo Italiano's men have scored eight goals so far this season, which is the second most outside of the top four. They have, however, conceded a worrying nine within this time, with a large chunk of this coming in their last games as they lost 3-1 to the champions, Inter Milan.
Regardless, their form has been decent so far and slightly superior to that of Udinese, so Forebet predicts them to reign supreme here quite comfortably, with a win that will see over 2.5 goals scored.
