Clermont and Monaco to both score
Clermont Foot vs AS Monaco - 26/09/2021
3181
Ligue 1 newcomers, Clermont Foot, were quickly out of the blocks at the start of this French top flight season as the hosts made a quick and impressive impression in the division in this their first ever season in the domestic top flight.
Early season victories over Bordeaux 2-0 away from home and a 2-0 home win against Troyes handed Clermont the perfect start to this new campaign.
However, the hosts have subsequently found the going tougher in recent weeks as they’ve failed to win any of their subsequent five games.
Heavy defeats away from home at PSG 4-0 and Rennes 6-0 have far outweighed Clermont’s minimal success in the shape of three draws with the likes of Lyon, Metz and Brest in 3-3, 2-2 and 1-1 draws respectively.
Although Monaco have made a slow start this season, this upcoming clash on Sunday may present further problems for the hosts.
Goals could feature though as two of Clermont’s three home games have seen both teams score, while manager, Pascal Gastien, has a fully fit squad to choose from.
While Clermont Foot dropped to 11th place on the Ligue 1 standings, Monaco lifted themselves up into 13th place following a resounding 3-1 home win against Saint-Etienne and the visitors will be keen to register a second win on the trot on Sunday afternoon at the Stade Gabriel Montpied.
Monaco have also produced mixed results so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign as the visitors have picked up a 2-1 win away from home at Troyes but they’ve also slipped to three defeats this term already as well.
Losses to Lorient, Lens and Marseille have resulted in Monaco occupying a bottom half position in Ligue 1 but the visitors know that they have a golden opportunity to pick up another three points against a struggling Clermont Foot outfit on Sunday afternoon.
Two of Monaco’s three away games have also resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net and although defender, Gullermo Maripan, will miss this trip due to a muscle injury.
The likes of forwards, Ben Yedder (3 goals) and Volland will be keen to fire Monaco to another three points in this encounter.
Both teams could well be heading in opposite directions following the outcome of this match but goals for both teams look likely.
