On Wednesday evening, Espanyol host struggling Alaves at the RCDE Stadium, as both teams look for their first La Liga wins of the season.
Espanyol are finding life back in the Spanish top-flight pretty tough so far, as the Catalan team have failed to win any of their five La Liga games this season after winning promotion.
All is not lost for Vicente Moreno’s team though, as they have picked up three draws from their opening five games.
Their early schedule has included matches against the likes of Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis, which were always going to be difficult games to win.
One of Espanyol’s biggest problems since their return to the top table of Spanish football has been scoring goals, as they have failed to score in three of their five league matches so far.
The Catalans had a similar problem in their previous spell in La Liga. The fact that they have now scored three goals in their last two league outings shows that they are progressing in an attacking sense. They need star striker Raul De Tomas at the top of his game this season if they are to beat the drop.
Alaves could not have made a worse start to the new La Liga campaign, as the visitors have played four and lost four in the Spanish top-flight.
Their problems have come at both ends of the pitch, as the visitors have scored just once this season while conceding ten goals in the process.
A 2-0 home defeat against Osasuna last time out means that Alaves have now suffered five straight defeats dating back to last season.
