PSG to roll on against Lyon

PSG will return to their Parc des Princes ground for this Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash against Lyon following their midweek exploits in the Champions League which saw the Paris club earn a point away at Belgian outfit, Club Brugge, on matchday 1.

It’s back to business though in this weekend’s French domestic top flight for PSG who have shown early impressive form with the hosts sitting top of Ligue 1 with a 100% winning record where they hold a four-point lead over 2nd placed Angers.

PSG have registered wins against Troyes, Strasbourg, Brest, Reims and Clermont and the hosts have also racked up a total of 16 goals in the process, which is perhaps no surprise given the bountiful supply of attacking talent at manager, Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal this term.

PSG’s attacking personnel has been further boosted by the arrival of Lionel Messi but it’s been the incumbents, Mbappe (4 goals) and midfielder Herrera (3 goals) that have produced the bulk of PSG’s goals to date.

The Paris club have also won their last five home games on the trot in Ligue 1 and it’s difficult to see anything other than a home win here for the hosts.

Lyon currently occupy 7th place and the visitors have made a reasonable start to their Ligue 1 campaign having picked up wins against Nantes and Strasbourg either side of the international break.

The visitors had made a slow start though in the early stages of this new term as they were held to draws by Brest and Clermont in 1-1 and 3-3 stalemates respectively, while also losing 3-0 away at surprise-package, Angers.

Results overall have been a bit of a mixed bag for Lyon though and this is perhaps why the visitors haven’t been making a serious title challenge for some time, but goals have usually been a regular feature in their matches.

In actual fact, results away from home have been the more consistent return for Lyon who have lost just once in their last 19 away games while 2 goals or more have been scored in 15 of these 19 games on the road as well.

PSG have held the upper hand over Lyon though in previous exchanges and the hosts have won by 2 goals or more in three out of the previous five meetings, so this trend may well continue on Sunday.
